What's the Difference Between a Yearbook Picture and a Senior Session?
What exactly is a senior photo? Is it the same as a yearbook photo? NO! There are a number of differences between the experience I offer my clients and a typical yearbook picture.
Senior photos are done differently in each part of the country. In some areas they are super popular but not so much in other regions. We have such a diverse mix of high schools in the Greater St. Louis Area, and each school has different requirements for the yearbook photo. A lot of schools make you use the same photographer with the same studio background so that all the photos look the same. You may not be able to submit your own, unique photo.
If you're planning to just use your school picture for your senior photo, you are missing out on something special that is unique to you and your personality.
So how is the yearbook picture different from a senior portrait experience? Let's talk about it.
The Yearbook Photo
Let's start with the typical yearbook picture...a yearbook photo is the photo that every senior has to take if they want to be in the yearbook. They are usually done at the beginning of the year at the high school with a large photo company. They use artificial light and the same backdrop for everyone, and your school may or may not have a dress code for the photo. This is done so that all the photos look uniform and consistent. Although this does create a nice, traditional look that is appropriate for a yearbook, it is not personal, creative or fun. This is where I come in!
The Polly's Lens Senior Experience
The goal of a senior photo experience is to show off your personality. I collaborate with all of my clients to create images that are unique to them. Seniors can wear whatever they want and have more than one outfit to fully showcase their personality. Clients can also personalize their session by including props, pets as well as choosing locations they love.
The entire senior session process is one you won't forget. We get to know each other in our pre session consult and planning meetings, I'll make sure you are fully prepared for your session day, and I'll help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. You won't have to worry about anything except having fun!
Unlike the yearbook photo which is a process of getting as many seniors through as fast as possible, a senior session with me is one that allows me to guide my clients through the process and make sure they get the most out of their experience. After all, you're only a high school senior once, and I want to make it as memorable as possible.
