4 Mistakes to Avoid During Your Senior Session: St. Louis Seniors
As a high school senior photographer in St. Louis, one of my clients’ biggest concerns is what to wear for their session. Everyone wants to look and feel amazing in front of the camera, so I have a few tips to help you avoid common mistakes that could keep you from loving your images.
4 Mistakes to Avoid
-
Wearing clothes that don’t fit you properly
Your clothes should flatter your body and bring attention to your favorite features. Clothes that are too tight or too loose will create an unflattering shape which may make you feel self conscious, and self conscious is the last thing you want to feel during your session. I recommend that you try on all of your outfits and ask a friend to take a few pics of you from different angles. That way you can make sure you love how your clothes fit from the front, side and back. And remember, if you don’t like an outfit it’s not you, it’s the clothes!
-
Not enough variety in your outfits
You don’t want all of your images to look the same, so make sure to plan a variety of outfits. I think a mix of casual, trendy and sophisticated is a great combination that will show off different aspects of your style and personality. Shoes and accessories are also a great way to change up your look without making a total wardrobe change, so you definitely want to bring a lot of options.
-
Wearing the wrong underwear
Believe it or not, your underwear is just as important as your clothes. I suggest wearing seamless, flesh-toned bras and underwear. If you have colored undergarments, check to make sure you can’t see the colors through all of your outfits. Seriously, try on all of your outfits with your underwear and check carefully to ensure you cannot see through anything. You will be happy you did!

Wearing clothes that don’t feel like You
Your senior photo session is not the time to make a drastic change to your style. Make sure the clothes you choose are outfits you would normally wear. It’s totally fine to add in a trendy piece or two, but you really want to stay true to your style and personality.
There are a lot of fashion rules and advice from a lot of different sources. I think the most important thing you can do is wear the clothes you love that showcase your personality and that make you feel confident. Here is a link to more style tips for the girls, and here is one for the guys.
