You have so many decisions to make as you plan your senior session such as choosing the best photographer for you, finalizing your wardrobe and deciding on the perfect location. As you think about all these details, you may be wondering if the location is really that important. Well, the short answer is yes. Location plays a major role in the overall mood of your photos, so you need to choose a place that really makes sense for your vision. But before we get into specific spots around the St. Louis area, here are three factors to consider as you research the best location options: Sentiment, wardrobe and vibe.
Sentimental Places
Are there places that have a special meaning to you such as a park that you have loved since you were a kid or maybe the football field at your high school? What about an iconic spot in St. Louis that you like to visit with family or friends such as the Arch or Forest Park? Any place that holds good memories is worth considering.
Wardrobe
What you choose to wear for your session and your location go hand-in-hand. You want your clothes to make sense in the environment. Ripped jeans and a cool concert t-shirt would look amazing in an urban setting but not quite right in a field of wildflowers. Vibe
How do you want your images to feel and what locations will highlight your personality the best? Do you want an editorial vibe with a city backdrop, or are you more comfortable with a boho session in a park? However you define your style, we will find the perfect location to achieve your vision.
Once you have some ideas in mind, make sure you talk to your photographer. She will want to make sure she can create the images you are hoping for in that location with a variety of background options and beautiful light.
Location Ideas in St. Louis
City
St. Louis has several urban locations that are really fun. Downtown has Ballpark Village, the Arch grounds and great architecture. The Loop and The Grove neighborhood also have a really cool vibe with a lot of variety.
Small Town Feel
Both Main Street St. Charles and New Town have the benefits of a larger city area with a more quaint feel. There’s also the added advantage of green space and lots of trees which look amazing in the spring and fall.
Natural Areas
If you love the outdoors or have a boho/romantic style then you are in luck. St. Louis offers a number of beautiful parks that will be perfect for you. One thing to keep in mind when choosing a park is to make sure it’s large enough to offer some variety. You don’t want every photo to have the same background. A few great options are Forest Park, Indian Camp Creek and Busch Wildlife. All three of these areas offer variety and are beautiful, especially during the change of seasons.
